7 Reasons Why It’s Important to Explore New Food

Food is something we need to keep us alive and we’ve come a long way since we used to gather berries on the ground and hunt what we could catch. We have developed incredible flavour palettes due to the nature of our cooking and the cultures that surround us, yet there are still people that would prefer to live off processed food.

In some ways, I understand the ease of eating ready meal food but there is so much out there that boasts such delicious flavours that you are literally doing yourself an injustice by not trying them.

We now have access to so many different types of food in the towns that we live in that we should try cooking with them, and to help encourage you here are 7 reasons why it’s important to explore new food

What’s Your Favourite?

You might have an answer straight away when asked what your favourite food is, and that’s a good thing because it’s important to understand our likes and dislikes. However, when it comes to food we have the ability to taste so much for a reason.

Personally, I love pizza. It’s my go-to when I’m feeling naughty or can’t be bothered to cook anything. But that doesn’t mean it’s my favourite of all time, it just depends on what kind of mood I am in.

Asian food (all of it) is one sublime cuisine and deserves all the attention it gets, but how are you doing to know about it if you don’t try something new? Finding your new favourite is a great reason to explore cuisines.

Discover New Flavour

Not only do you have the potential to discover your new favourite food, but you have the chance of discovering completely new flavours along the way. A lot of basic food in western culture is pretty bland and doesn’t have a lot of flavours but when you look at the basic foods of other cultures you will find huge flavour in tiny dishes.

It’s important to expand our palette so enjoy more than one style of flavour, we are humans and we should embrace the fact there’s more to life than what’s in front of us.

Experimentation

When you explore food you open up the opportunity to experiment in your own kitchen. Playing around with food and trying to make something the best you possibly can at home is such an incredible thing to do. Whether you’re cooking for your family, your partner, or just yourself, it’s always great to incorporate something new and exciting.

If it’s a healthier product you’re looking for then it’s good to look for anything organic, the experts at CleaversOrganic state that it’s vital to have a product that is organic and free from GMO for it to be classed as even remotely healthy.

If you’re eating a product that appears to be healthy but in reality is covered in chemicals and things to hide its true form then you’re doing yourself an injustice. Experiment when in the home it’s a lot of fun.

Health

The main reason we eat is to stay alive, our bodies need a certain amount of nutrients and vitamins to function properly and without them, we will start to slowly shut down. When it comes to eating food rich in nutrients we need to look at colours, if we eat with our eyes we are far more likely to eat something that is rich in antioxidants and vitamins.

For example, berries, fruits, vegetables, sweet potatoes, and other foods that are rich in colour are much richer in these aspects than others. Deep leafy greens are also important because they contain a lot of vitamin C and vitamin K, both hugely important to living a healthy life.

Culture

You aren’t the only country on the planet, and it’s important we remember that. One of the best ways is by the huge variety of food that comes from every corner of the planet. Travel the world and try new food as you go, or if you can’t travel go to different supermarkets in your area, there are plenty of shops that will cater to different styles of food.

Dinner Parties

If you’ve ever had people to your house for a dinner party you’ll know that serving food that is at least acceptable is key to a good evening. What’s even better is serving something new and exotic that will be an experience for your guests to try. It’s impressive and will have people wanting to return!

It’s Fun!

More than anything else, trying new food is fun. It’s a great way to expand your knowledge and learn about different cultures and flavours. There’s no point in travelling the world if you aren’t going to submerge yourself in the local scene much like there’s little point to experimenting with food unless you’re really going to give it a go. Enjoy what you do, and enjoy the food you make.

As we have already said, eating food isn’t just something we enjoy doing, it’s something that’s essential for survival. If I were to set one challenge for the upcoming week I would say you have to try at least one new food, it could be a new fruit, vegetable or from a new cuisine. Either way, give it a go and try and keep it up for as long as you can. You never know, you might find a new favourite!
