It is important to be very cautious of the food we take these days, as there are food items which are bad for your teeth. Hence, it is best to avoid them. But if we cannot avoid them, we should at least brush our teeth after having those and keep regular appointments with a highly qualified dentist.
Apart from brushing our teeth, it is necessary to use mouthwash, however, make sure it’s a reliable mouthwash because these days there is a lot of counterfeit product which may have a negative implication on your dental health. It should be noted that mouthwash is used to kill the bacteria and preventing bad breath.

1. Carbonated soft drinks
It is always better to stay away from carbonated soft drinks since they have loads of sugar in them. Other harmful ingredients that you can find in these drinks are phosphoric and citric acids. Both the acids can lead to the erosion of enamel.
2. Dark colored foods and drinks
These include sauces like soy sauce and fruits like cranberries and blueberries. The color gets absorbed by the enamel hence causing staining and eventual eroding of the enamel. Even red wine can have the same impact over the enamel as it contains alcohol and can make the enamel porous causing staining and eventual decay of the enamel. Even drinks such as coffee should not be consumed much as it also causes staining of the teeth. Also coffee being sticky in nature can get other foods to stick on to the teeth.
3. Fresh citrus and dried fruits
Fresh citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges, and grapefruits which are harmful to their colors as well as because of their acidic and concentration of sweets. Even if you are choosing sour fruits, then also you are not doing any good for your teeth because of the high concentration of acids in the sour fruits. The dried fruits are equally harmful and that is because of the huge concentration of sugar. Another harmful agent present in the dried fruits is the non-soluble cellulose fiber that binds these fruits. This can bind the sugar around your teeth also.
4. Energy drinks and packaged fruit juices
All these drinks contain loads of added sugar. Hence it is better to have water or juices without added sugar for keeping your teeth healthy.
5. Vitamin tablets
It is surprising, but it is true! Vitamin tablets that are chewable can get stuck within the teeth and besides the side teeth and are sometimes responsible for cavities. Hence, after having chewable vitamins always brush your teeth.
No matter if you eat brown rice or white rice and other healthy carbohydrates such as sweet potatoes and whole grain pasta, they will harm your teeth. This will happen because of the pre-digestive enzymes that will break the carbohydrates into sugar and hence harm your teeth. Also, these foods can get stuck in between teeth and cause slow damage to the teeth.
7. Hard candies
According to the dentists, hard candies are not at all good for the teeth. These candies not only stick to the teeth, but they taste remains in the mouth for a long time even after dissolving causing damage to the enamel.
8. Alcohol and medicines containing alcohol
For having healthy teeth, it is better to avoid alcohol. The reason is, alcohol decreases the saliva in the mouth and saliva helps to counter the harmful acids produced by the foods. Also, alcohol causes irritation of the soft tissues harming the teeth. If you need to have medicines which have alcohol in them and you can feel that your mouth is getting dried after having the medicine, get a fluoride gel for brushing your teeth or a fluoride rinse for increasing the saliva in your mouth.
