Knowing how to be kind to yourself after the busiest of days should be an essential part of your self-care routine. What’s key is trying out different methods and ultimately deciding what works best for you.
Wondering what this might look like? It might mean you skip making dinner and pick up a pizza instead, using the extra bonus time to unwind however you’d like. When was the last time you laid down with the sole purpose of taking a nap? Naps are a foreign concept to so many and this is unfortunate, because their benefits speak for themselves.
To get through a busy stretch, your body and mind must both work overtime. This is exhausting and sometimes the only remedy is to lay down, get comfortable and surrender to sleep.
Another great thing about naps is that you’re totally disconnected from the world around you — from people, from your job, from your devices, from your to-do list. Even if it’s only for a short amount of time, naps are the perfect way to recharge your battery.
4. Catch Up on Life
Have you ever noticed how being busy can mean different things? It could mean you’re busy with work or school, social gatherings or appointments. While they all have your time in common, they all weigh on you differently.
You might find yourself feeling totally burned out from a long stretch of work and realizing that you’ve been putting off your annual physical for weeks. You might lay awake at night thinking about how it’s been ages since you’ve gotten together with your best friend for dinner because you’ve been so consumed with family obligations and your role as a mom.
While this is all totally normal, it’s important to pinpoint the things that you want to (or should) do and make time for them. However, doing it in such a way that you’re not piling on the stress is key. Since you’re already practicing mindfulness, this will be an important exercise to include.
Once you find ways to balance things in your life, you should find that dealing with busy times becomes easier.
