So, you got yourself a new job and it’s great. It has good benefits and the people are nice to you, but it’s considerably far away from your home and you’re thinking of finding a new place that’s close to you. 

Some things need to be considered and thought of well before making any decisions, so remember to think about this thoroughly before you decide to move.

Compare pros and cons

It would be wise to make a list of the advantages and disadvantages of moving out and finding a new place to call home. You should think about the location of the new place, the price of rent, the neighborhood, and a lot more. You need to conclude that your choice has a broader meaning and there’s more to it, having everything written down on a list in front of you can help you make a decision.

Think about the type of tenancy 

Another thing you should consider is whether or not your landlord will provide you with a periodic or normal tenancy, as each one has its upsides and downsides. A periodic tenancy is an agreement that has no defined time period stated in the contract. It is renewed based on periodic time slot, usually weekly or monthly.

Scope out the prospect school location and community centers and see if this will be a place you can easily integrate into.

Before you make any decisions, you should always check the potential house you are contemplating and what comes with it to get an idea of what to expect if you’ll be the new tenant there.

You need to check it more than once to look at it with different eyes, and ensure all utilities and amenities you would need are working and provided. That way there won’t be any unpleasant surprises when you actually move. 

The long term goal 

Now it’s time to think about the bigger picture; you need to ask yourself if you feel like this is the right time to pack up everything because you see this place as the new home you’re looking for.

Can you withstand a long commute to your new job instead of moving, or do you see yourself living in that new place forever? This would be easier to answer depending on how long you’re planning to work in the new position you are accepting. 

Think about your finances 

Before you decide to sign a new house contract, you need to get an overview of how your expenses would be like in a new home and location. Check how much approximately you’re paying for bills and other expenses, then see if it’s the same, less, or more than what you’re used to.

If it’s more, then you should consider the practical benefits of moving because if it will cost you more to move, then it might be counterproductive to pick up and leave, or will it be the best value for money? 

Will you be physically and mentally comfortable?

This is a very important question to ask, especially if you have your family with you. Ask yourselves if this new home will be a comfortable place to live in or will it need too much work to make it ready. Also, will it be a great place to stay when you’re not working and living there hinder your job in any way?

Think about the commute from this new place to your job; it’s important to have it very close to your working place because that’s the main reason why you would want to move in the first place.

Switching jobs for better positions, pay and benefits is a normal part of life. Choosing to move to be closer to a new job can be one of the best choices you will ever make. Go through everything related to the new house you are thinking of and check if you can afford to have it alone or with a roommate if the rent is too high for one person. But overall, make sure that make the right choice for the betterment of your life.
