What Does The T Mean In Children’s Clothing

Children are growing up very fast, so their parents often face the problem of selecting the correct size of clothes. This is especially true if you buy items in the US online stores. For a thing to fit a child and be comfortable, you need to know the children’s clothing sizes.

For example, you want to buy a nice romper for your 2 y.o. baby girl, should you purchase the 2t size or 18-25M? How to pick up the size right?

How to Define the Size?

Most often, US sizes are shown in letters or numbers. The general principle for classifying children’s clothing sizes in the United States is as follows:

1) Up to 2 y.o. (New Born / Infant)

The size in this case displays the number of months or the range of months of the baby. In this regard, the letter M is added at the end of the size. For example, 6-12M is the size per child from six months to a year. A general sample list looks like this:

• From 0 to 3 months — 0-3 M (3.2 kg – 5.5 kg/44 cm – 58 cm);
• From 3 to 6 months — 3-6 M (5.5 kg – 7.7 kg/58 cm – 68 cm);
• From 6 to 12 months — 6-12 M (7.7 kg – 10 kg/68 cm – 74 cm);
• From 12 to 18 months — 12-18 M (10 kg – 12.2 kg/74 cm – 80 cm);
• From 18 to 24 months — 18-25 M (12.2 kg – 13.6 kg/80 cm – 86 cm).

2) From 2 to 5 y.o. (Toddler)

Everything is the same here, but instead of months, the number of years is indicated. The letter T is added at the end of the size, which means that the clothes are suitable for toddlers. For example, 2-4t is the size of a child from 2 to 4 years old. A general sample table looks like this:

• 2 years — 2 T (13.6 kg – 15 kg/86 cm -92 cm);
• 3 years — 3 T (15 kg – 16.3 kg/92 cm – 100 cm);
• 4 years — 4 T (16.3 kg – 18 kg/100 cm – 107 cm);
• 5 years — 5 T (18 kg – 21 kg/107 cm – 115 cm).

3) From 6 to 14 y.o. (Youth)

Here everything is different and it is better to navigate according to the following list:

• 6 years — S (21 kg- 29 kg/114 cm- 132 cm);
• 8 years old — M (29 kg- 32 kg/132 cm- 137 cm);
• 10 years — L (32 kg- 36 kg/137 cm- 145 cm);
• 12 years — XL (36 kg- 42 kg/145 cm- 152 cm);
• 14 years — XXL (42 kg- 50 kg/152 cm- 162 cm).

It should be noted that these tables have only general recommendations and the size may vary depending on the brand. Clothing models also impose their own characteristics. When buying branded clothing in an online store, you can specify the size by the relevant table of this manufacturer.

So, it is recommended to look at more accurate tables on the official websites and make the right choice from the first attempt.
