The Jets have one of the most well-rounded teams in the NFL, but their QB play has always kept them from being serious Super Bowl contenders. The front office hopes that Aaron Rodgers is the last piece of the puzzle after giving two NFL Draft picks to the Packers for him.
The defense, led by winning Defensive Rookie of the Year Sauce Gardner, will be ready to play, thanks to head coach Robert Saleh. There are a few young players on the team who are just beginning to show what they can do in the game. The key to getting over the hump in New York Jets’ is to help these up-and-coming artists grow.
Even though they had a rough season at quarterback, the Jets almost made the playoffs in 2022. After a great summer, the team has never been better prepared to play for a Super Bowl.
Here are three reasons why Gang Green will play in the playoffs again this year.
That said, let’s have a look at our three reasons why the Gang Green is tipped with the bet on nfl games online to play in the playoffs again this 2023 NFL season.
No. 1 – Aaron Rodgers Past Super Bowl Success
When they signed Aaron Rodgers, a future Hall of Fame quarterback, the New York Jets may have made the most earth-shaking move of the NFL summer. The polarizing star quarterback brings a history of winning and mature leadership to a locker room full of young players who are getting better.
After the Zach Wilson experiment failed, general manager Joe Douglas decided to go with a tried-and-true center instead of moving up in the 2023 NFL Draft to get a riskier player. Wilson may improve as the backup quarterback to Rodgers, but the BYU graduate is not ready to lead a real threat.
Enter Rodgers. After having a legendary career with the Green Bay Packers, the former legend followed in the path of Brett Favre by playing for the New York Jets. The people of New York are looking for a better outcome since Favre led the league in interceptions in his only season with the Jets.
The four-time NFL MVP is by far the best quarterback the league has ever had. He is a smart passer who does not like to take risks. Rodgers looks after the ball and makes plays that aren’t planned, which is a rare combo. The 18-year pro will help the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, Garrett Wilson, reach the next level of his growth. Watch out for Jeremy Ruckert and Zack Kuntz, who are both young and play tight end.
Rodgers is ready to go to New York to try to win the Super Bowl. He has a lot of tools to help him do this. Even if their quarterback wasn’t great, the Jets would have easily made the playoffs in 2022. They should get much better than average results from the new signal caller in 2023. As far as title hopes go, No. 8 is where it all starts and ends.
No. 2 – A new step toward the top for the defense
As I said before, Sauce Gardner will be in the defensive backfield at MetLife Stadium for the next ten years. The former Cincinnati Bearcat is already one of the best defenders in the NFL, but he isn’t the only thing that could make this defense one of the best in the league.
Quinnen Williams, a defensive end for the Jets who is going into his fifth season with the team, is the most important player on the front line. He is a force in the run game and always puts pressure on the quarterback from inside the pocket. Since most of the pass rushers on the team haven’t shown much yet, Saleh will look to Williams to draw attention away from his teammates so they can get one-on-one looks outside.
C.J. Mosley is back for his fourth season in New York after making the second team of All-Pro in 2022. Jordan Whitehead, D.J. Reed, and Al Woods are also veterans who are expected to help this team win. Rodgers can carry one side of the ball, but the defense needs to make a big jump to become great for the team to be in the discussion in February. I think it will too.
No. 3 – Offensive Line Remains Healthy
On paper, the offensive line is a strong group with high draft picks at almost every spot. Mekhi Becton has a lot of skills. But he has a history of injuries, including a broken leg in 2022 that kept him out for the whole season. Now that Becton has lost weight and looks ready to play in the NFL, it is a very serious worry that he has a bad track record.
On the other side of the line, Alijah Vera-Tucker, another first-round pick, had his 2022 season cut short after a strong rookie year in 2021. The USC grad played left tackle, right tackle, and guard, among other positions, along the line. He is a player who could make the All-Pro team in Year 3, as long as he doesn’t get hurt again.
Laken Tomlinson didn’t do very well in his first year with the Jets, but if he stays with the same team for 2023, that will help a lot. Duane Brown, who turns 38 years old on Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season, durability could be a problem for the team. However, when healthy, the grizzled veteran is still an above-average contributor on the blindside.
When the Jets picked Joe Tippmann in the middle of the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, it might have been the most exciting pick-up (besides Rodgers). The Wisconsin leader will start at center on Day 1 and gives the team another guy on the inside who could be an All-Pro. Tippmann is a game-changer in both the run game and pass protection. As a rookie, he will be a leader for the team.
I have a lot of faith that the offensive line will get better, and it’s not just because the starting unit is so good. After getting hurt a lot in recent years, the Jets chose to change the order of the players on the depth chart. Max Mitchell, Billy Turner, and Connor McGovern could all start in a pinch, giving Rodgers peace of mind as he gets used to his new home.
