Cosmetic Procedures: Are Any Of These Safe To Do While Pregnant?

So you’re finally pregnant, and it’s just an amazing experience! But if you’re a woman who’s used to getting cosmetic treatments and procedures regularly, you must be sitting there, wondering whether it would be okay for you to go ahead and continue getting what you usually get done. And if there is any kind of doubt, there are always alternative methods to getting the same results, more or less.

Some of you may have never gotten cosmetic procedures done before, but as you are pregnant, you’re definitely noticing changes in your body and can’t help but wonder if you should do something to make you feel better.

Varicose veins, for example, is very common amongst pregnant women. Sometimes, you may also notice armpit lumps. Although these are usually harmless, it’s important to get them checked out by a doctor to rule out any serious conditions. Learn more about what armpit lumps are and when they may be cause for concern.

And while you should definitely go for getting this treated, it’s not advisable that you do so while you’re pregnant. Once your little one is out in the world, the doctors at VIVAA advise that you wait a couple of months before getting them treated, just so you’re over the hill of breastfeeding and so your hormones are back in tact.

So the big question here is, are any of your favorite cosmetic procedures safe while pregnant? Read on to find out.

Botox

If you’re someone that has used Botox before and have made it a habit, you might have to reconsider when you are pregnant. The way Botox works is that it helps to eliminate wrinkles and relax the muscles in the face to achieve a younger look. To be fair, so far, there haven’t been any actual reports of complaints from expecting mothers that have used it during their pregnancy.

However, you have to keep in mind that it’s a chemical that we still don’t know the effects of when it comes to pregnancy, and so you’re taking a risk. So while there isn’t any definite proof as to why you can’t do Botox while you’re pregnant, this means you probably can. It’s just a question of whether you should take the risk at all.

Facials

Facials are probably the safest cosmetic procedure that you can go for while you are pregnant. Always go for the soft kind with all natural ingredients and the ones that don’t involve lasers, and you’re good to go. These include:

  • Hydrating: These kinds of facials are particularly effective for pregnant women because your skin will be lacking the essential oils and hydrating factors. These facials use products and ingredients that bring the life back to your skin.
  • Oxygen: We had spoken earlier about using Botox to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles. This is actually a wonderful alternative because this facial uses oxygen to get the circulation going and helps to give your face a healthier and younger look by getting rid of all the fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Deep Cleaning: This is the kind of facial you should get during your pregnancy to give you a sense of rejuvenation. You get to have exfoliation done while being moisturized as well.

Chemical peels

Chemical peels are something that we love to go for because it really goes deep to rid us of a layer of skin, and have a brand new feel to our faces. So is this safe during pregnancy? In most cases, probably not. But there is one kind of chemical peel that you can use, which is Glycolic Acid Peel.

Laser treatments

Like Botox, we are not entirely sure of the effect of laser treatments on a pregnant woman. There is no proof to say that it is harmful, but there is also no proof to say that it is safe either! We use a laser to remove hair, and treat skin conditions when it comes to cosmetics. Hormones tend to go a bit wild when we’re pregnant, so acne might become more common, dryness, and hair growth on the body may increase.

It may be tempting to go ahead and get laser treatments done because they’re effective for long periods of time, they’re fast and painless, but just keep in mind that we’re still not sure of what kind of effect they may have on the pregnancy. You could always wax, which, if done well, can last up to a month.

If you feel a need to have a certain cosmetic procedure done, then you have to make sure that you consult your doctor and that it’s definitely after the 3-month mark.

However, you have to keep in mind that many of these procedures involve chemicals, and anything you put into your body goes into your bloodstream, which means it will reach the baby, and may even stay within the breast milk that you will produce for the little one. So if you can help it, it’s best to stay away from anything that involves getting chemicals into your body that we are still not 100% sure of.

This does not mean that you will no longer take care of yourself and look good though! You can still get facial treatments done, as long as they are done with harmless ingredients. You can get your body waxed to get rid of body hair, and you can go for threading when it comes to facial hair.

While we know how magical the usage of Botox maybe, you have to be sure to consult your doctor so that you’re sure that you’re not taking a risk with your child. How far along you are in the pregnancy and what the hormonal changes are doing to your body has a lot to do with this also. You’ll be happy to find that there are many facials that have the same effect of Botox in terms of treating wrinkles and fine lines.

And remember, many of these hormones that are released can have positive effects on your skin and hair as well. So it’s just a matter of what kind of pregnancy you are having, and regardless, there are plenty of alternatives to turn to until you have your child.
